Reflecting on EDU 779 02

What are the 1 - 2 most important things you learned in this course? How will these things be part of your future work as a teacher or librarian?

One important thing that I took away from this course, is how complex systems that we use every day are. Before this course, I never really understood what it took to create a functioning application or website. I truly did not realize the system that it needs for it to work. While I was watching the Twitter System Design, I was taking notes and found myself still struggling to understand what was happening in order to make it work for the billions of users that access it every day. Since taking this course and learning about the designs, I have taken a step back every time I use an application on my phone or on the computer and really thought about all everything that is going on just for me to login to an account. I have become more patient with applications as well and understand that while I am using it, it might have some latency and/or malfunctions. I will definitely want to have my students understand this before they become my age and not have a clue what is happening. I think it is important for them to learn at a young age what they are using and how it is working. Even my first graders can benefit from some type of course that teaches them why we are able to login to a system and use it. I am planning on implanting this in the next couple of weeks and coming up with a way that users that are this young can understand what is happening.

What are 1 - 2 things you need to learn next to build upon what you learned in this course? How will you learn these things?

One thing that I want to learn next is how to actually code. I know for creating the application for this assignment we coded some to make sure that we were able to go to the next slide or make buttons active. However, I really want to understand coding. Since this course, I have already looked into other courses that focus on coding, and I have watched several videos on YouTube for coding for beginners. I think that this will be beneficial as a technology specialist because I can take what I have learned and create a club or a class that allows students to learn from me. Coding and programming are becoming so popular, that it will help these kids become ready for the working world.
